The hills, streams and sea of the Miyama area of Kihokucho are a wealth of nature, and a picturesque backdrop to the world heritage Kumano-codo pilgrimage route. However in recent years, highway construction has led to woodlands being cut down and left as is. Trees on hills adjacent to some residential areas have withered and are in need of immediate repair. By planting the tree species that naturally belong in those areas, we hope to offer protection against natural disasters such as landslides, contributing to a community where residents can live in safety and tourists can visit without worry. Our 3-year plan is in effect starting 2012.
