Wakayama Prefecture is called "Country of tree (Ki-no-kuni)" blessed with forest, as typified by "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountains Range," a World Heritage Site. However, poorly maintained and devastated mountains have recently increased. Wakayama Prefecture has promoted the "Forest of companies" and has made efforts in developing environmental forests in order to protect such mountains. Supporting these efforts, the AEON Environmental Foundation is conducting natural environmental conservation activities under a five-year plan (from 2005), by being involved with natural environments and fostering the forest with our own efforts. 372 volunteers (286 from AEON and 86 from Momoyama Town in Wakayama Prefecture) planted 2,700 seedlings on Sunday, October 2, 2005. In 2006, 340 volunteers (270 from AEON and 70 from Momoyama Town) planted 2,500 trees on May 14 (Sun.).
