When a dam lake was constructed just outside of the Laotian capital city of Vientiane for irrigation purposes, many trees were cut down and the land was left barren. By planting trees there, a woodland was created to improve the dam’s water retention and water purification capabilities, as well as provide a recreational spot for local residents. The program was implemented over a 3-year span.
