It all began with a single pledge.

A homeland devastated after the war. The sight of people suffering from pollution in the shadow of industrial development.
This scene, witnessed by the founder, Takuya Okada, became a strong pledge for peace, vowing "never again."

The prosperity of a company is only possible with a peaceful society and the happiness of the people who live there.
This belief became AEON's basic philosophy: "Pursuing peace, respecting humanity, and contributing to local communities, always with customers as our starting point."
In 1990, the AEON Environmental Foundation was born.

We want to leave behind a planet where future generations can live in peace.
This "altruistic spirit of thinking 100 years ahead" is the core philosophy behind all our activities for over 35 years.

Four Activities to Make the Earth Bountiful

Tree Planting
Our tree planting emphasizes "quality" over "quantity." We respect the history and culture of the region, planting trees native to the land by hand, one by one, with local volunteers. It is an attempt to spread the wisdom of Japan's "Satoyama," where people and nature have coexisted in harmony, to the modern era and to the world.
Environmental Grant Program
The more people who share the desire for a better future, the better. We support NPOs and citizen groups in Japan and overseas who share the same aspirations in tackling environmental problems through our grant programs. This is not just financial assistance; it is a partnership that expands the circle of environmental conservation throughout society by acting as a "hub" that connects various activities.
Environmental Education and Joint Research
We believe in the "experiential value" that our activities bring. Through platforms for collaboration among young people of different nationalities, such as the "Asian Students Environment Platform," we create opportunities for mutual respect and growth. We believe the key to solving environmental problems lies in this "growth of the human heart."
Awards
It is also our important role to praise those who are engaged in steady but wonderful environmental activities throughout society and to share their knowledge. Through awards such as the "MIDORI Prize for Biodiversity," we aim to shine a light on outstanding activities and raise the level of biodiversity conservation in society as a whole.
